I work for a vets office and that would have NEVER happened where I work. That is outrageous! I’m sooo very sorry that happened to you! 💔

It probably varies from state to state. Most laws allow for euthanasia of a stray animal if the vet demanded it medically necessary. But I also don’t know the whole story.

As soon as you said "just let her go on her own", it makes me feel like your elderly dog looked emaciated, got brought into a vet clinic, told it was a stray whoever was taking care of, and they thought it would be inhumane to wait on stray hold. Vets will euthanize stray cats and dogs that come into the building suffering. Did they have a collar? Did they have a microchip? Do we know if their condition worsened while away from home? 3 weeks can change alot. Were they out in the heat? Injured? This doesn't sound like murder but it sounds like a sad situation overall. They should tell you the condition they came in and why they did it though, if not, I'm confused.

I’m curious if dog was chipped and how long was the dog in the vet’s care before they put him down? So sad 😭

I just sat and watched 10 videos of this man asking for a supervisor and one never came out. If they had just sent out who was in charge there, all of this probably could have been avoided. That family is hurting. They have kids. The dog was 13. They wanted her to pass at home so they could all be with her. I put my 14yo soul dog down a year ago for bladder cancer and it devastated me. I held him like a baby until he was gone. It would have PUT ME IN THE GRAVE if this had happened to me and I couldn’t have been with him! I get why he’s hurting! 😢💔🙏🏼

By law, they cannot put any dog down. They have to try to find the owner. This has happened to me and there was a big lawsuit against the Vet.

Very very sorry this happened and that officer handled this very well. Unfortunately both parties are at play in this. As a previous shelter worker and have helped in euthanizing many animals trust me when i say those people did not euthanize that dog happily. The shelters are FULL the first ones to go in there are the sick, old, and aggressive. Now should the owners have had more time to get their dog back and space be made in another way with a dog who has had their time there be euthanized instead absolutely. BUT if the dog was 13yrs old and on it’s last leg how did the dog get away from home that easy, also why no identification on the dog? The shelter does not know who the owners are automatically and if the dog looked like it was suffering that is why they did it because they had nowhere to put it and no way to care for it at the max capacity they are at. Again so so soooooo sorry this happened but it is the world we live in today with shelters and yes i would be devastated and angry if it was my dog but i would be understanding of the workers who HAVE to make these decisions but i would also be mad at myself for allowing my elderly dog to get that far away. Only thing i disagree with strongly is that payment to receive your dog back. We NEVER charged a person to come pick up their deceased animals from us. If this is taken to court it will most likely be dismissed because once the dog is in the building it is the property and responsibility of the county unless the owner is for sure known, verified, and notified. They did their job and trust and believe those workers are only following protocol and direction from someone above them who does not work in that building whether it be county law or state.

3 weeks ago she was probably in a lot different condition than when she came in from being on the loose. Hence. why they euthanized her.
