@teachyourchildtoswim: Let’s be real about puddle jumpers. If you don’t fully understand the long-term consequences of introducing your child to one… listen up. Your 16-year-old instructor at the big-box swim school? They’re managing 25 kids a day. They’re not tracking your child’s swim development like you think they are. Your private instructor? A lot of them are just trying to keep you happy and keep getting paid. Most won’t tell you the hard truth. But I’m not most instructors.
I’m an early childhood development expert, a career swim teacher of over 20 years, and a parent. My wife is too. And here’s what we’ve seen: The only kids I’ve worked with who don’t have bad habits in the water are the ones who never wore a puddle jumper. And that only happens when we start them at 6 months. Every single 2, 3, 4, or 5-year-old I’ve seen has worn one.
And every parent swears “we barely use it.”
Just like every parent says, “I’m always right there with them.” False. We all want to believe we’re doing our best — but this is a mistake.
A costly one. A dangerous one. Any instructor worth their salt — one who actually knows what they’re doing and doesn’t need your business — will tell you what I’m telling you now: Puddle jumpers delay swimming. They inflate confidence. And they actively make your child less safe. Period. No debate. Not even mentioning the part that they could jump in water without it, at the wrong time. I love helping new swimmers. I love the challenge. I love the families. But the reality is this: most kids are starting behind because of their parents’ decisions. And the worst part? People are paying money — and going out of their way — to make their child less safe in water. And yet… here we are. Drowning is still the #1 cause of death in toddlers. Because too few people are willing to stand up and say it clearly: Puddle jumpers are not just a mistake. They’re a problem. A preventable one. Let’s do better!👇 Let me help you, meet your child where they are at, and start moving in the right direction. There’s plenty of summer left to end strong! ✅Link in Bio Comment Prepare 2 Swim for more details.  TEACH YOUR CHILD TO SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK
