Realizing how many come into the ed just due to not being compliant with their medication or even skipping dialysis is honestly insane. Or not giving up their bad habits but then healthcare workers get called pill pushers

It’s a challenging concept to grasp, but many patients, exhausted by their illnesses, may resist medical advice because it feels like yet another loss of control. Paradoxically, refusing guidance one of the few choices still available to them can create a placebo effect of autonomy, allowing them to reclaim a sense of agency even as their body weakens. Perhaps by shifting our approach, we can better support those who need extra help in regaining some form of control over their lives.

Had a patient come in with critically high CO2. Refused to let us shave his beard for BiPap and refused intubation. He passed the next day. Family was begging him but he said his beard was his life and he wasn’t getting rid of it.

As a surgeon, this is very relevant and my senior partner says: you shouldn’t care more about the problem than the patient does, but the reality is that’s hard to do.

I do High Risk OB ultrasounds. I tell the other providers we can’t care more about their health or the health of their baby more than them. We can just document, document, document that all efforts were made to help them.

my mom was like this a week ago. I was so fed up and embarrassed how she was acting I apologized to the nurses. I told her to leave ama if that's how she felt .mind you she was there for a clot in her lung

As I say to everyone yeah I'm DNR at 26 but that's cause I know there just ain't nothing that's gonna fight back in my body necks messed up POTs causes me problems and then EDS with Long Covid, it'd be a miracle if I came back just let me go I know I look young but my life's at its end.
