Dealing with this situation at my current job. My lead always micromanages me, since day 1. I intimidate her. Jokes on her. She will stay at this job and I will grow and move on with my career. I want to be an ARNP and I’m about to go back to BSN school! Jokes on her! She will be an MA, and I’ll

I have students all the time. My last two that I’m almost finished with have been the hardest. I’m not turning you lose on my patients until I’m confident the skill is there. Day one both of them wanted to do injections, remove sutures, all without observing. I have a step up method. I will double check your vitals until you are getting them right. One student keeps disappearing and wandering into our lab and asking to do the draws. Basics are learned in school. You are not injecting a patient until I see you can find the right medication, dose correctly, etc. we work our way up. I have had students that could do an intake

I’m always more than happy to welcome new MAs but I will not sugar coat a thing I let them know up what providers like and don’t like. I always let them Know too I appreciate their help and ask them what would they like to work on for experience 🥰🥰

Honestly as the head MA. I wanna make sure they are in it for the long run, I’m not going to stress myself training someone who doesn’t want to stay or succeed

Seasoned MA here !! Believe me it happens but when they keep hiring students that have been during their extern at the same place for weeks. Many know how it works after being hired and being officially trained for weeks after weeks and they still don’t get it, we can’t train people that do not want to learn ! Its frustrating especially in a super busy specialty

I have been at my job for 3 years and I have been there the longest besides "the lead MA" who is a boomer and has driven everyone else out because she is like that.

The way I have had this experience and I was at that site/job for almost a year, I wish it wasn’t like that but I think they forget we all start somewhere and especially when you’re in some of the more specialized departments? Theres things you didn’t learn in MA school or that were just glanced over, and things that you learn by doing! I hope the next wave of MAs don’t get treated like this 🤦🏽‍♀️💕

17 year veteran MA here. Never have I ever done this to a student/new hire. I do my level best to make them feel welcome. I have been ostracized and looked down on by other MAs including old and new. It is a matter of personality but I also believe that no one is above another. Need to work as a team and make a well oiled machine.

I looove when we get students they are literally a blessing with helping out with all the work we do! I got lucky with my externship because everyone was so nice and helped me learn all the things that go into being a MA other than rooming patients and getting vitals.

And god forbid they find out you’re applying for grad school like med school or pa, nursing etc they’ll make your life hell because they’re upset that eventually you’ll become a provider ans be “above them”

I’ve definitely been there before but in my experience the worst people are always the nurses. Not all nurses but the ones who view you as “just an MA” are the ones I’m talking about

I left my first job because the MAs were so rude. I’d ask a question and they would scold me, “you should know by now” “look in your notes” that’s not how you treat others… smh 🤦🏽‍♀️enjoy being down one because i might’ve been new but i sure did help a lot.

On the flip it can be incredibly frustrating when training because you have a large workload already and sometimes it feels like babysitting. I try to be kind and explain as much as possible but sometimes you realize they just aren't getting it and its affecting my already packed work load. it becomes daunting because you know they aren't a good fit and it won't work. if you are a new MA please dont lie on your resume. We know within a day or 2 if you are. I am more capable of training you if I know your actual experience. If you come in with a padded resume and I can tell you've never done something before, we have a problem.

I was told I was a mean ma just because the student ma came in and wanted to do a blood draw on my patient and I said no because she has a lot of trauma and is not good with new people

I'm a "seasoned MA" at the clinic I work at. I try my best to help all the new hires BUT when they are babied/not held accountable then it gets to be to much. Especially when they come in and dont want to do the work and we're the ones who have to go and fix it. I feel like its more on management.

If they are taught correctly and thoroughly with the proper knowledge, training, I will be very impressed and they want to be there and not on their phones the whole time. I will work and help them in any way I can. But if they come in there acting like children no matter how old they are. They will get attitude. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I came into a situation with an MA who worked in my clinic for 14 years and made everyone's life hell & another 50 year old one. I stuck it out and both quit. Now I'm precepting new MAs and taking care of them ❤️❤️
