@atlcody: life-saving care' includes treatment for injuries or ailments that may not pose an immediate risk but could lead to long-term deterioration, severe suffering, or eventually become life-threatening. Chronic conditions—including mental health needs—receive care when properly diagnosed, deemed medically necessary based on severity, with specific treatment determined and approved by qualified medical professionals on a case-by-case basis

My friend was in jail, he was a type 1 diabetic, with other chronic illnesses. He couldn’t take insulin in big doses so he had to have it 4 times a day. The jail would only give him insulin twice a day, he ended up going blind in one eye because his blood sugars were all over the place and never stable.

Now I wonder if they see high blood pressure as an illness that requires life saving care/treatment that is required to keep you alive? Like no I won't die in a week, but if you go with it long enough untreated it can cause heart diseases that can be deadly.. 😅🤷🏻♀️

I work in that system, and if you ask medical within the jail system, they will provide ibuprofen and many other types of medication usually not narcotics and some of those items you will have to pay for an extremely cheap price. If you have a pre-existing condition proof from your doctor, they can treat or send you out to a hospital for treatment with a guard.

Wow, I never thought about that. I wonder if they give you enough to get off the SSRI because withdrawal with immediate is probably life-threatening if not pretty close.

i know most people do not have the means to do so in jail, but can you get meds if you can pay for them for your chronic illness?

And even that care required to keep you alive is loose. Diabetics are kept at higher levels of glucose bc it’s just easier for them.
