Not to mention, sound and chords are recursive in structure and use a Fourier series to create their wavelengths. Our ears dissect sounds via a Fourier transform to split the sounds we hear into different frequencies and different sounds (this allows us to hear different sounds and chords). In the ear itself, tiny hairs are tuned to each frequency and do this transformation.

That has blown my mind a little. Is there a way to divide up what we currently call octaves to make the mathematics work out? I assume it would end up being a large number that isn’t quite a multiple of 12, so quite difficult to actually use.
