@bethradulski: Neurotypical traits are seen as the default, so when neurodivergent people communicate differently, we’re often seen as rude, unstable, or even dishonest. We say what we mean, and somehow that makes us less trustworthy? Meanwhile, neurotypical people are praised for diplomacy—even when it’s just polished dishonesty. We don’t get the benefit of the doubt. We’re questioned, second-guessed, excluded from decisions. Overlooked for leadership roles and promotions. It’s not that we’re not trustworthy—it’s that the system trusts masks more than honesty. Normalize different forms of truth. #Neurodivergent #Ableism #neurodiversity #psychology #autism #adhd #audhd #MentalHealth #mentalhealthmatters #autistic

Wait, is that why they say look in the eyes. Because they personally can’t lie when they look a person in the eyes? Is that true?

In my 20s, pre-diagnosis, I was called down to HR because my supervisor thought I was “untrustworthy”, because I didn’t make enough eye contact with her. I had to explain to the HR rep that prolonged eye contact was uncomfortable for me for reasons I couldn’t articulate or understand. 10 years later I was diagnosed AuDHD and it was like “oh, that makes sense.”

My doctor treats me like I'm lying about being neuro diverse because I explain it poorly and struggle to structure it in a linear way

This is why I'm scared of situations that I have to prove my innocence because the more honest I try to be the more people think I'm being dishonest

this is so funny because in my whole life people tend to believe me more when I'm lying than when I'm telling the truth. in other words I should become a criminal just to not get arrested, right?

I had a customer the other day who had brain damage and he told me that before we interacted. Part of my job is taking statements and during his statement he went through everything like even how dry his sandwich was. I’m so glad I got him because I’m sitting here like “no yea I’ll wait”

The very idea of "performing honesty" should be an oxymoron. Society is exhausting

I'd get in trouble so much as a kid in school cause teachers thought I was lying all the time, especially when other kids did the wrong thing and I was telling the truth with what happened but they weren't... all cause I was fidgeting or laughing or looking away 😭

Relatable! Unfortunately. I finished my MBA, but have had a consistent special interest in neuropaych and systems. Learned I was AuDHD neurotype during my MBA. Considering a PhD concentrating on ND friendly business, ND system design, or OrgPsych. My question for you is, would you recommend your PhD program? Did you like it?

I have actually written documentation showing that memories don't always follow a linear narrative. When someone recalls events out of chronological order – especially during questioning – it’s not a red flag. In fact, it often reflects how real memories work: they’re triggered non-linearly through emotional or sensory sub-memories in the brain. That’s neurobiologically consistent with truth – not deception.
