Lambswool, ice wool, domette, etc, this wool layer between the boning and the outer fabric is a nifty way to create a smooth finish that looks stunning and striking! We see it a bit in pad stitching, a technique used in suit making that helps stabilize areas like lapels and collars, and now we see this being translated over into couture fashion! Personally I love the way these ultra smooth, slightly puffy garments look, and I have used it a few times to really give pieces a soft finish! If you are short on cash or don’t want to use wool sheets (which are made by shearing sheep and chaotically matting the fibers down btw which is ethical) you can try bamboo batting or cotton batting, so long as they are natural fibers that can be shaped with heat and steam! Would you give this a try? . PLEASE NOTE: when searching up ‘ice wool’ materials on the internet you will find them for sale but they are also listed under an offensive term for Inuit people.
