He got due process. ICE / DHS have the right to detain unverified individuals on site and place into administrative detention for 48-72hrs until identity / status is verified. 8 U.S. Code § 1357 He got caught up in the chaos of a massive raid, between 200-360 undocumented detained (largely because he was noncompliant), but was processed and released. Immigration enforcement / detention is civil, not criminal, so under the law he did not need or qualify to contact legal counsel. Fact checking is free

George Retes, a U.S. Army veteran & citizen, was unconstitutionally held against his will by ICE for 3 days after having been tear-gassed and forcibly removed from his car while attempting to make his way to WORK w his route passing through a ongoing Ventura county immigration raid by happenstance, clearing identifying as a US citizen. He was denied access to a lawyer, family contact, or any explanation of his arrest, and was released without charges. He got conflicting orders from officers during his attempt the communicate and identify as a citizen and his intent to make his way to WORK, then tear-gassed and dragged out! There that's what happened
