@toren_wolf: Decision paralysis has been a huge problem for me my entire life, though I have gotten better about it. 💜💜💜 My parents would actually remove choices for me for many years, and only offer me one choice, and this was the most helpful for me. I knew they were doing it, and I actually really appreciated it. Because too many choices can be completely overwhelming for people like me.🤷🏻💜 Do you experience this?🤔❤️ #autism #adhd

I hate when people ask me what my favorite color is or my favorite food or my favorite movie. I don’t understand how people have favorites of things.

when I was younger, I didn't like making choices either so I would say I don't know.

We’re having our 3yr old fully tested for ASD and watching your videos is making it a lot clearer on how to help and parent her. Thank you so much for sharing.

I also have decision paralysis. I got emotional watching this because I relate so strongly and was never able to find the words as to why. Thank you!

The only thing worse than no options is too many options. At least with no options, I can accept that and move on... sometimes. It is almost as bad as not seeing the option you were looking forward to and being forced to find something else to choose. I struggle with dinner options all the time.

This is one of the reasons I struggle with menus at restaurants, especially at a restaurant that is new to me and I don't "know" the food.

I hate buying gifts for this exact reason. I panic and ruminate over whether they'll hate what I choose and it has caused meltdowns before... and it hasn't gotten better with age or therapy 😭

I wrote my college thesis on decisional procrastination bc I couldn’t decide what to write my thesis on and started researching what was wrong with me lol. Anticipatory regret is how most people make decisions, rather than choosing the best option.

I struggle with this at the grocery store & my bf helps me narrow down my options so I can decide easier. Hell be like 'well only these ones are gluten free & we know you like these' & now even when I'm alone I'll try to imagine how he'd narrow it down for me and it helps me do it for myself ❤️

decision paralysis is not unique to autistic people. A lot of neurotypical people have it.

Torn, I’m considered neurotypical (although I’m not sure that wholly exists), but I get what you’re saying completely. As a full grown, middle-aged adult, I can argue MYSELF into circles on the pros and cons of every choice. I had a college professor call it paralysis of analysis and that term sticks in my head to this day

my kid is like that. I used to be like that but then I conditioned myself to make decisions instantly. without really thinking. and then aggressively not think about it. that is also not fun. I have no idea how to help my kid come to some middle ground. talking about parallel universes where alternative realities exit sometimes help

A point comes the fear of losing potential option A & C gives way to forgetting those options. Thanks to object impermanence😂 treating symptoms with symptoms

I make decisions much better when it’s just me involved. If I’m given a choice, and I made my choice… and the person who gave me the “but hear me out” rebuttal… I’m done.

I always let other person “decide” for me - and I don’t mean really decide, I just let them choose something, and then I check my emotional reaction to their choice. Usually I feel sad or angry about their choice, and that means the other option is a way to go 🥰
