I had to take my Shepard mix to vet recently and they had to mess with feet (toe nail issues) I said she has never shown any aggression, but because it's her feet, I would like a muzzle. Just for precaution.

We had a reactive dog and we never claimed to “have” anything but a muzzle 😅

My clinic pretty much doesn’t allow owners to hold except in certain cases where we know they actually can and have to because their dog is less aggressive with them

not only that, but if the pet bites the owner during the exam, the vet is on the line for medical bills. I've been seeing more and more clinics make it policy the owners are not allowed to hold.

What is up with those people. I had a dog that never bit, but she got super scared as she got old. Like scared enough I mentioned they might want to muzzle her for some parts. Be honest with the vet. It will always go better.

I took my dog for shots and the vet was amazed I was able to effectively hold him and wasn't freaked out while they were drawing blood and giving shots. They even had a tech peek in to offer assistance if needed, but when she saw my hold on him she just said we were good and left me with the vet. Later said it's rare an owner can actually restrain their own dog cause they "don't wanna hurt the poor baby" 🙄 Dogs are sturdier than most people think 🐕

Our vet knows I can hold our (20 lb) girl, and my husband absolutely cannot. And I willingly step aside if that’s what they prefer. They deserve to feel safe, first and foremost.

Lifetime dog owner, worked with a vet for a bit in high school, I STILL would rather have the tech come in. I may know my animal, but the vet and their team know exactly how to work together!

I had a dog that would end up being muzzled, he got a little "growly" when the Dr would go near him. He was good with the assistants, just not the Dr 🤣 We had no issue with him being muzzled.

I secured a dog the other day in a standard hold. 1 arm around neck & 1 under belly, pulled against me. I never used force/sqeezed. He was great! Owner complained I choked him!🤦🏻‍♀️

Me saying this to my coworkers while holding the dog in a bear hug with my arms and thighs fully prepared to put myself between the dog and my coworker should I need too vs owners saying this 🙃

I was so pleased when they put in my notes that I actually did hold my dog well for the exam. She was 120lbs but it didn't take a lot from me to hold her down because she wouldn't fight me much. Anyone else and you'd need more than one tech to hold her!

Had this same thing happen. Owner insisted that just pulling up on the leash was enough - repeatedly. Insisted up and down that we didn’t need a muzzle and the dog was trying to bite us left and right. “He doesn’t like to be hugged, just pull up on the leash like they do at the groomer” She insisted the reason they couldn’t get the nails done at the groomer was because of the other dogs around that were stressing him out.

It takes me, the tech and the Dr to hold my dog. Thankfully he loves people so much that being at the vet doesn’t even phase him because all he wants is everyone to love up on him.

My 100lbs boy would anxiety snap at the vet. We tried a muzzle which ended up with the exam room needing to be painted due to projectile 💩

As a former vet tech I start off holding my dogs; however, if I see they the tech would rather hold them then I will gladly step aside.

I hold my one dog because she has issues with other people touching her. She does better when I hold her head. I do how ever make sure I have a firm hold of her head or body.

as a blue heeler owner it's best that I hold her, but I'll hold however you want, and they don't move at all when I have them

I hold my dogs at the vet, but my vet got to know me first and got to know my dogs before she felt comfortable for that. I understand not everyone knows how to grip a dog without getting someone bit.
