When those castles where originally built the owner also owned all the farmland and peasants around the castle which paid for the upkeep. This is no longer the case in modern times 🙄

what most people who own them do is do castle tours to help cover the costs

A heavy tax? What tax? There's council tax but it's really not that heavy.

The reason they're prestigious is *because* it's ruinous for your finances

The real reason is location. Rich people used to live spread out over the country because money was made from farming. Now the rich people live in big cities because that’s where the money is these days

Most are like to be Grade 1 buildings - meaning all repairs are now going to be extremely expensive as there are requirements over materials and techniques used.

That castle in Scotland being sold is honestly criminal. It was bought with money raised by clan members and now it’s being sold without their permission. Which means an individual is going to benefit financially from a sale of property that was bought using funds raised by charity.

Not 100% the truth. They may not even pay taxes if it is a heritage site. That comes with having to use artisanal tradesmen which is a nightmare.

What's the heavy tax you speak of? Asking as a Scottish person that knows the tax rates and none are "heavy".

We don’t have property tax like they do in the USA. Theres council tax but even at the highest band it would be like £2000 a year.

If the castle belonged to a clan, i d say the clan unites and maintains it. They can either live in it or rent it. With a few handy men it is easy to maintain...
