I’ve only had one patient with capgras, but it was devastating. She and her husband only had eachother. She hated him and made sure he knew that every day. He still took such good care of her. He knew she never meant any of it towards him.

I had capgras syndrome for a couple years, and the only reason I didn't go insane is because I think mostly logically and that was enough to remind myself at least a little bit that it's not possible for them to be imposters, doesn't mean that I wasn't getting screamed at in my head that something was wrong, though.

my ex and I were in an abusive relationship, and he had paranoid personality disorder. and often he would have episodes and my own mental disorders would trigger mild capgras syndrome symptoms and sometimes he would experience it. he once spent a month telling me how much he hated me and was disgusted with me. I tried to give him space but he said he desperately needed "his me" not me. one day I was really tired and he started his "you realize I'll never love you, right?" and I didn't even flinch. I just said "I know. but I love you enough to endure it until I know you're safe without me" and it finally snapped back. by then it was too late. I didn't lose my love for him but I lost the security in the relationship. he's since gotten worse I heard. it's spiraled back into believing that I took someone from him and he blames the new version of me for ruining his life. a lot of people have cut him off because of his behavior and mental state because he... can't be helped. he never mentioned the "replacement" to his therapist. Just spoke about the new me and how he misses the old me. but something bad happened. I hope hes okay but that its far away from me.

im not sure what exactly it was but when i was little there would be periods of time where i looked in the mirror and it didn't feel like my face was mine, it felt like i was a different person, someone else was controlling my body and living my life and no matter how hard i tried it was like i couldn't get out of my head to take control back of my body until the other person wanted me to or was done, i started calling them shadow days because i thought it was my shadow taking over to keep me safe because it only happened during times that bad or really sad things happened, i still knew the things happened but it was like the other person took over while i processed those things, there was a few times in my dreams i remember seeing what the other person looked like and they looked like a different version of me, more glum and sad, but ready to make sure i didn't have to feel the way they did and they never told me what to call them, i still feel like it happens some times but not exactly like it did when i was little, im still in control but i can almost hear them talk to me when i need them

my parents tried daily to convince me my mom was replaced by an alien robot when I was about 4-6. my earliest memory i have is them chasing me to the living room laughing telling me I'd never see my real mom again while I was crying in fear 🙂

WAIT OH MY GOSH i was like seven years old and my parents picked me up from an event. i was so scared because I didn't think they were my real parents. This feeling just resolved on its own after a couple days but I didn't know this was it!
