as a veteran who has dealt with universal healthcare in the form of the VA which would be the model for the US...I can 100% say that I hate universal healthcare for too many reasons to list...in america TORT reform and reversing mandatory coverage would go along king way to fix our system.

Yep. I WANT everyone to have healthcare, I’m just not sure what’s the best way to do it. I don’t like what I’m dealing with now, but I hear about those terrible wait times with the other systems too. Idk the answer!

I live in an area with several different major hospital systems. There are about 13 hospitals all within an hours drive and an hour and a half will get you to several renown specialized hospitals. I worked in the healthcare industry for quite a few years. My least favorite people to deal with were European politicians. You have no idea how many of them slip away to the US for medical care and need to have their appointments be precisely scheduled because of their secrecy and time constraints due to the travel. One of them got upset with me because they needed a medical device and they were upset I couldn't provide a European model because the electrical socket was different and she absolutely could not buy an adapter because it would be clear she didn't get the device in her home country. I looked her up after and found out she was elected on a platform touting the greatness of their universal healthcare, meanwhile she was in the states several times a year for appointments despite not having a major diagnosis.

Mandatory transparent pricing would go a long ways towards lowering healthcare costs across the board. If people could know going in what a clinic or hospital is going to charge they could shop around for better prices. As things are now, healthcare providers hold all the cards on charging as much as they can for as little service as possible.

When we lived in Sweden, my husband had an enormous hernia. He couldn’t exercise and was so uncomfortable. He was in a waitlist for two years before they fixed it here in the states it would’ve been fixed immediately.

I live near a large Army base that used to have a fully functional hospital. Then the government decided it was better to outsource the Healthcare for the soldiers and their families to the county hospital I worked for. Their hospital is now just GP's and a glorified urgent care. The government also did the same with the hospital for the Native Americans in our county. I'll take not government run Healthcare any day over that mess. If the government is shutting down fully capable hospitals and footing the bills for those people to go to county and privately owned hospitals then it makes you wonder if the care would be as good if the government ran it.

I dunno, I have to get a colonoscopy every three years and despite my doctors knowing I have to do it when it's time to make the appointment it has a 6 month wait.

Anyone in the US military has had "free government healthcare" and will tell you that you pray you are getting sent to a different hospital if something happens, I had my appendix out in 2020, and in 2022 right before a rotation to Poland, they told me that they thought I had cancer from 2 year old blood tests, after 1 1/2 years of trying to figure it out, they gave up and just said I wasn't getting worse

We want affordable healthcare that’s not reliant on the employer. The ACA was a step in that direction however the affordability and having a medical emergency draining the bank accounts is a massive problem

I can get online 24/7 and have a telehealth visit with a doctor or nurse practitioner, who can send in prescriptions for me. Then I can get them delivered to my home. Being able to do all of this when you are under the weather or homebound is the absolute best. So yes, as an American our healthcare system may suck sometimes. But if you are insured & understand your plan benefits, you can usually stay a step ahead.

Health care in America is ridiculous. I pay $600/month for health insurance. That doesn’t cover anything. It still costs me $180 to see a doctor each time. The cost of medicine is crazy.

Agreed. Every system has its flaws. I think the biggest flaws of the American healthcare system are the health insurance companies whose entire business models are to deny as much care as possible (making them billionaires) and the exponentially higher healthcare costs that tens of millions of Americans can’t afford. If you ask any American from any state, they will all know someone who pays hundreds or even thousands of USD/year, just to be denied care when they go to the hospital due to a car accident, or something similar, because the local, private hospital doesn’t accept your insurance company (even if the insurance company you go with is one of the largest in the nation) or because your insurance company simply doesn’t want to pay for it. Our insurance companies have AI algorithms telling people who went to school for 8+ years that they’re wrong and that their patients don’t need the care the doctor says they do. This happens thousands of times every single day. I’m not sure what can be done to improve our system, but the current system is only supported by people with extreme mental health issues. I wish they could get treatment for those mental health issues, but most aren’t covered by most insurance companies, and tens of millions of Americans are uninsured.

the US healthcare system also has waits. and soon we will lose rural hospitals more and more. our system costs far more than y'all pay in taxes & we're all one bad illness away from bankruptcy. we already have government run healthcare for our politicians...just not for the rest of us. freedom of choice is an illusion in the states. we have little choice, insurance companies dictate our care.

I prefer private over public, as I want the speed and convenience and prefer to have decision over my own treatment, but the issue with US healthcare is we have too much government involvement. It's this weird in between point. It should be much more privatized. I'm not a fan of Obummer Care because it shot my private rate up from 70$ to 350$...The other thing too is that 90+% of Americans have healthcare and almost everyone with a salary gets its and if not, can use government assistance. It's not as big a deal as people outside the US make it
