Transmission fluid- drain and fill every 60k miles roughly, read the owner manual for exact intervals
Brake Pads/Rotors- when it starts squeaking its usually bad, when it starts shaking under braking its bad
Tires- "penny test", if you can see the entirety of Lincolns head its too low and needs changed
Coolant- Usually a year based system, generally every 2 years or so
Differential Fluid- same as transmission fluid generally
Air filters- every 6 months
Fuel filter- every 60k miles or 5 years, whichever is first

No0nesOpinion :
If you are getting oil changes at a place they should be checking and filling up all your fluids as part of that oil change, fyi. Good to double check they are not ripping you off now if you are going tot eh same place every time.

if your muffler bearings go out then your exhaust system can build up a dangerous amount of carbon monoxide. if you are sitting in traffic and feel lightheaded then that means the relief valve is open and flooding your car.

Might wanna have you engine looked at and see if the head gaskets are bad now. Overheated my car once before I knew about the coolant and it blew my head gaskets

You don’t know what you don’t know until you learn it. But, you are super lucky! Push one of those things a little too far and you’re looking at replacing an engine. Happy to hear you dodged that bullet!

While coolant does need to be changed its a pretty long interval. If it was empty in the reservoir and low/empty in the radiator it has a leak.

For future reference if you are low on coolant you’ll smell a maple syrup ish smell, if you smell that go to the nearest part store and get some, blue is for Japanese brands like Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Subaru and the yellow and orange is for us car companies

yeah pretty much any fluid in your car either disappears or leaks out at some point so always good to check all of it

Heads up most manufacturers (Honda, Toyota, etc.) put recommended service intervals somewhere in the manual for the car. You can usually find pdfs of the manual online nowadays. I’d stick to that if not sooner than what they recommend.

Spark plugs need to be replaced around every 50,000 miles. Tires need to be rotated every 5,000

to be fair, normally when you take your car into a shop to get the oil changed, they will check your coolant levels and your filters. glad something worse didn't happen and you had a friend who was able to tell you what was wrong! :)

Careful, you may have blown a coolant line which is why you lost all coolant. Keep an eye on the level in the reservoir, it shouldn’t really change in level much at all. If it’s dropping a lot, you have a leak.

Oil types are a big deal too, not just the weights but wether it’s synthetic or not can be a big deal and affect how often you need to get your oil changed.

tires need to be rotated. generally every 20,000 miles, and then replaced after 40,000

I mean, better late than never to learn about it. Other than checking tread on tires, routine fluid/light checks, and brakes, that about covers the basics.

16yo mechanic here. Even though I know how to work on cars I still have a hard time with maintenance myself. Don’t feel bad I didn’t even know my radiator hose was broken on my truck until I ran my engine for awhile

coolant can be put back every 6 months from the oil change and transmission fluid replacement but realistically you should be asking your maintenance people
