For most tanks, you’re probably right in the ballpark. Other things to consider are what temperature you want the tank, what is the temp of the room throughout the year. If the tank needs to be at 75 and the room is 75, you don’t need that much heat to compensate for evaporative cooling.

Out of all my years keeping fish. Never had a heater over 300w. I had some big tanks. 150/220/740. Right now my 740 sitting on 2 300w. Winter I’ll add a third. Just keep a temp controller with them.
