SAVIO :
It might look “innocent” or “just for fun,” but this is actually very worrying. These are school boys, still young and impressionable, and already being encouraged by adults in the comments to glorify unruliness. What starts as a simple hand sign or “trend” can slowly plant seeds of rebellion, violence, and disrespect for authorities in schools (I am High School Teacher). We should be helping our learners focus on education, discipline, and building a positive future — not promoting behaviour that can derail their lives before they’ve even started.
Gangsterism is not just about “looking cool” — it destroys communities, breaks families, and robs young people of opportunities. By normalising it through likes, shares, and hype, we’re silently telling these boys that this is acceptable or admirable. That is dangerous.
Instead of encouraging them, we as adults should be guiding them towards sports, leadership, arts, and constructive activities where they can find identity and belonging in positive ways. Namibia needs responsible youth who will grow up to lead and uplift their communities, not imitate lifestyles that lead to crime and destruction.
Let’s not underestimate how quickly these “small acts” can spread in schools and create serious problems. Please, let’s stop hyping this and start mentoring and protecting our young boys from paths that could cost them their future.
