you couldn't be more wrong! I payed into ssi for 45 years,and so did my employers, this is my money being payed back to me! safety net programs however, do take money from young struggling taxpayers and gives it to people who often just don't want to work! try telling the truth!

Before SSI 2/3 of the elderly were in poverty, and then left wing policies put americans in better financial shape aka Boomers. Boomers then voted in Reagan and embraced right wing policies screwing everyone else that came after. It isn't SSI redistributing wealth from the poor to the rich, that's right wing policies that do that

The idea of benefits for retirees is that if their expenses unexpectedly go up they shouldn’t have to return to the job market. It’s a matter of human dignity. Very few people retire with the kinds of assets to paying for health care out of pocket, or to pay market rate premiums for insurance

I think you’re overlooking the fact that many of those older people have paid Social Security tax and Medicare tax for decades. So in fact, they’ve prefunded almost all of their benefits and then some..

Ok let me help you understand. SS was never meant to be a tax. It was an obligatory retirement program for the individual paid by the individual because not everyone saves for retirement. You only received a portion of what you put in cause let’s be honest most die before utilizing it. It is a SCAM. Now it’s a tax because govt spent your dollars instead of waiting for you to use it. They up’d the age that you could receive it, secretly hoping enough people would die that their Ponzi scheme wouldn’t be exposed. It’s over. Let it die.

Now Medicare… Medicare was instituted at a time when the largest voting group was seniors. They wanted them to know if you voted for us, we would take care of you. It is full of regulation that raises the cost of medical expenses exponentially. This got even worse after Obamacare. Govt programs are NEVER cost efficient and NEVER what they promise. It’s also dying. Let it die.

We need to quit infantilizing adults and punishing success. Govt programs and regulations make everything more expensive rather than letting the free market bring costs down. There is fraud and abuse and waste and companies will lobby the government to abuse tax payer funds wherever possible. We need less regulation and more free enterprise, in everything. Less govt is good govt.

SS and Medicare are seperately funded by future benficiaries. Your claim that older people are all “rich” is unfounded. Don’t base an argument on something you can’t prove. Benefits are reduced if the beneficiary’s income is too high. Read the other comments. You’ve misunderstood these programs.
