for those of you asking for references: 1. Al-Qurtubi's Commentary In his renowned Tafsir al-Qurtubi on Quran verse 7:26 2. Bayhaqi's Sunan Al-Bayhaqi records in his Sunan al-Kubra (hadith 3222) 3. The verse in Quran 33:59 specifically addresses this distinction.

THANK YOU. I was 13 when I learnt that muslims adopted hijabs during the invasion into persia where they saw high class women wearing it as class markers. Mentioned it to my mum and almost got a smack if i didnt retract it.

Tbh I was born into a Muslim family wore hijab all my life i just started to not wear it and honestly when I wore it I felt protected men didn’t bother me however now I don’t wear it men harass me all the time so the hijab is a good thing I ain’t gonna lie I feel safe wearing it then when I don’t and I’m not very religious

Islam did not introduce slavery, it restricted its sources. The only legal source of new slaves under Islamic law became prisoners of war (with the intention to take care of them and provide them with the opportunity to reintegrate into society- prisoners of war used to be k*lled prior), and even then, manumission (freeing) was encouraged especially through mutual contracts (mukatabah).

my jaw dropped when I read this during research for my dissertation. there's a reason why degrees in history or political science are discouraged. it's very hard to con a woman who has research skills. looking at the rise of islam through a political/economic lens are a revelation 🙂 pun intended.
