For the fireplace, you can purchase a fire retardant spray to treat the cushions with. I’ve done it in the past for a public art installation for a municipality made of fabric and it satisfied the fire marshal. It doesn’t change the feel of the fabric

Contact someone that makes commercial furniture for restaurants. There are some around Edison NJ. They can make you a foam and wood structure to fit over the existing stone. Use a commercial grade fabric, most already are Fire resistant. It’ll look amazing!

I think an orange fabric for the sunk in living room would be fabulous — a light warm brown/tan on the walls!

What an AMAZING house. Where I would start would be neutralizing either the brick or stone floor. They’re both the same shades, and it feels heavy!

I want to extend the table out to the fireplace and make it like a little cozy place to sit for your coffee or after dinner

Wool is fire retardant naturally, so avoid foam and go for wool stuffing for sure.

For the walls, if you did something near the tone of the larger sofa in the middle, I think the creaminess would really warm up the space along with the warmer touches you have around the house! Once you get the lights swapped out for something warmer–beyond cozy!

Colour match one of the tones from the slates in the sunken floor!

I don’t know what the fire safety regulations are in America but there’s a minimum clearance, maybe around 12 inches, that needs to be fireproof material, like tile or stone. That’s why people would have a stone hearth in front of their fireplace with the rest of the flooring in wood or carpet. If you can install the upholstery with that clearance from the front of the fire, it’ll be fine. And you can go with fire-retardant treatments or wool. Just don’t scrimp on the quality of the workmanship for the upholstery

Leave the cement divider! It’s perfect. Glass bricks would be off. Sage paint on the walls. Match your flagstone floor and go a little lighter. Cushions on fireplace boncos. Stain the wood on the ceiling to match.

I feel like the all fabric wrap would lean too 70s. I think cushions are still the best option, especially considering the fire place. And for the walls I think just a warm greige like farrow and ball school house white

You would need to use fire rated upholstery at minimum. And make sure that the foam is also fire rated and that you understand what will happen to it if it catches on fire and if it would contribute to fire spreading throughout your house and how. (I would be as an interior design. I’ve been an interior designer for 18 years) so that’s my advice

My two cents, I wouldn’t cover the whole sunken room, just separate cushions for seat and back with a fun textile! That way you can wash, etc. esp being close to the fire you’ll want that option.
