Old Finnish religion had many believes about women having powers that needed to be respected and feared. After Christianity was forced on us, our language, was banned and it almost died out, culture killed off and destroyed and many words that used to have holy meaning, turned in to swear words.
Our old religion was build around forest and respecting the earth.
Sadly, many of us don't know our own old believes anymore, but some habits and festivals stayed, we just don't know why we celebrate them or why we are rhe way we are. Luckily Christianity here is not a big thing now, we are more atheist country.

It infuriates me so much that christianity has now become "the norm" and is considered the main religion in europe, when originally europe was a pagan continent. Every european old region, like the roman empire, the north, the tracia, etc, they all had many gods and pagan traditions (some of which still exist) until christianity took over and forced its beliefs. People in Norway burned down a christian church many years ago and everybody was outraged, when thats literally what christians did to their religion centuries ago..

so basically patriarchy happens when scarcity is present. but also patriarchy in its core tends to create scarcity where abundance is - to continue usurping the power. this explains why men tend to destroy everything in their way and start wars at all costs, to create this way scarcity, they so dependent on

Thank you for responding to my comment! ❤️❤️❤️I love your take on the subject and never considered the relevance of the climate in creation of religion. I question how most polytheistic religions had both male and female gods of equal power, but most monotheistic religions worship men. How did women lose their importance through the transition to monotheism? Obviously the Romans had a huge role in this. I also wonder how much the Bible has been doctored to promote patriarchy.

This is so interesting because I’m Micronesian, and like you mentioned, we have a matrilineal culture and matriarchs as well as patriarchs, but one can argue that our matriarchs can be held in higher regard to their male counterparts. I always wondered why that aspect of our culture was so different from a lot of the world, and I never considered our climate and environment. Thank you for this video!

I completely agree with this take however the one small issue is that in Judaism we do use female pronouns for God in our prayers a lot too still being an Abrahamic religion regardless ur point still stands and stands well

Hey, so this doesn’t add up historically and is a grave oversimplification of how religions have developed and worked within the Middle East and in other desert regions to the point where it’s actually concerning.

Prior to God being used to promote the patriarchy, God was genderless and wasn’t personified the way God is today. In the original herbrew text God was referred to with masculine, feminine, androgynous, plural and singular pronouns and words. In fact the Holy Spirit is strictly a feminine singular word.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Either have 2 gods man and women or 1 god that doesn’t have a gender. We need to see that women and men are for the most part equal and that there is no higher gender.

Would love an analysis on gender roles in dharmic religions, particularly Hinduism. Despite it being one of the older religions, I feel like it’s been warped in the past few years to be even more patriarchal, homophobic and intolerant.
