It infuriates me so much that christianity has now become "the norm" and is considered the main religion in europe, when originally europe was a pagan continent. Every european old region, like the roman empire, the north, the tracia, etc, they all had many gods and pagan traditions (some of which still exist) until christianity took over and forced its beliefs. People in Norway burned down a christian church many years ago and everybody was outraged, when thats literally what christians did to their religion centuries ago..

Old Finnish religion had many believes about women having powers that needed to be respected and feared. After Christianity was forced on us, our language, was banned and it almost died out, culture killed off and destroyed and many words that used to have holy meaning, turned in to swear words.
Our old religion was build around forest and respecting the earth.
Sadly, many of us don't know our own old believes anymore, but some habits and festivals stayed, we just don't know why we celebrate them or why we are rhe way we are. Luckily Christianity here is not a big thing now, we are more atheist country.

in Hinduism as well, the roles are fluid. we have plenty of goddesses portrayed as strong figures who fight evil men

Thank you for responding to my comment! ❤️❤️❤️I love your take on the subject and never considered the relevance of the climate in creation of religion. I question how most polytheistic religions had both male and female gods of equal power, but most monotheistic religions worship men. How did women lose their importance through the transition to monotheism? Obviously the Romans had a huge role in this. I also wonder how much the Bible has been doctored to promote patriarchy.

Heavy on this! This is probably the reason why female saints are almost always relegated to positions of "mother", "guide", or "protector"

I grew up in a private Christian school. I always found it odd there was never a nice story or nice ending to any woman in the Bible I heard.

I completely agree with this take however the one small issue is that in Judaism we do use female pronouns for God in our prayers a lot too still being an Abrahamic religion regardless ur point still stands and stands well

Hey, so this doesn’t add up historically and is a grave oversimplification of how religions have developed and worked within the Middle East and in other desert regions to the point where it’s actually concerning.

I read that patriarchy came to life when we switched from hunter gatherers to agricultural societies and wealth accumulation begun. This is when physical strength and making sure your assets are really passed to your child and not someone else's became essential for resource accumulation and guarding. I was surprised it wasn't a religion thing at all.
