@charmarchronicall: Very long story short, my husband was cleared to pick up my handicap placard paperwork from my primary care doctor. Her front staff would not allow my husband to pick it up. He was trying to text me to tell me to call them because they said I needed to call them to allow him to pick it up. When my husband started to text me to call them one of the women in the front staff told him “I have no idea who you’re texting. Anyone could call pretending to be her.” So when my husband came back out to the car, which was the closest parking space we could find to my doctor’s office, I realized I was going to have to walk a LONG WAY to the doctors office because if I called, they would just say somebody was pretending to be me. Had I known I was going to have to walk that far I would’ve taken my walker. I had just done a PT appt and worked so hard to get my body to stop shaking. Once I started the walk, my body started to shake like this. Once I got into the doctor’s office, I was assertive and told them I was there to pick up the paperwork my husband was supposed to pick up. I was ADVOCATING for myself and explained this was absolutely abhorrent to do to a patient. They made me fill out paperwork (PHI) because it had expired (this could have been done electronically and no one told me-again, he was cleared to pick it up!). When my husband saw how I couldn’t write on the paperwork he said “I will fill that out for you.” One of the front staff said “No! She has to fill it out!” So, with my shaking hands and body, I start to fill it out. Another said “Oh, he can fill it out.” I replied “Oh, no no no. I will fill this out and if you can’t read it, not my problem.” Reiterated how INSANE it was to treat any patient but especially an obviously disabled patient picking up HANDICAP PLACARD PAPERWORK and who is having spinal cord surgery soon!!! in this manner. Then, after much back and forth, my husband handed them back the clipboard and the pen fell off, as pens do on clipboards. A nurse came out of nowhere, opened a door, and started screaming “DID YOU JUST THROW A PEN AT THEM?!” I was so confused. She did this several times before my spouse said “No, look at the cameras if you don’t believe me.” And FINALLY a front desk woman said “No, no, he did not.” I bent down, shakily to get the nurse’s name and she closed the door quickly, as if I was going to try to hurt her? Or get back to see my doctor? I said “Ma’am with my shaky butt what are you even thinking?! If you would LISTEN I said I’m contacting my Dr on MyChart.” She replied “I’m talking to my manager.” I told her that was good because if this is how they treat patients, management should know. This video is me leaving the doc office. All of the work for PT was gone. you should of never went thru this. you need to contact human resources and put in a complaint regarding this. I've had my provider mail out my paperwork for the disability card for DMV. He signs it then I do the rest and take it to DMV.

Tell them you’re sending an e-feedback. Those go to upper management first and then filter down to the various levels of the care team. The hospital won’t like what happened to you AT ALL. (Though usually for the optics, not actual care or anything)

If this is the 4 letter M-hospital I think it is, call and keep asking for a higher up until you get to someone you feel like is taking you seriously. Their lower level ppl are completely untrained to deal with anyone reasonably and they know it.

Ye, they're gatekeeping....it's usually the nurses who read the MyChart messages first. Doc may never see them

Tell them you want all written in your file & you want a copy of it for your personal record. Then, call your insurance company & lodge a complaint.

I had to go to SSA to prove my best friend was legally blind. she became legally blind after having an allergic reaction to medication. she was 8 months in a coma and has SJS. the lady at SSA asked her to sign the paper. I said "she's blind, she can't 👀 the words on the paper that she can't see"🤦♀️😑so I had to put the pen in my friend's hand put her pointer finger on the paper and tell her to sign. as we were about to be done I said "is that enough proof that she's blind or weren't the thousands of pages of medical records enough"😑🤔

WTF? I’ve had my adult daughter and even my best friend pick mine up, they just had to show their ID. This is insane and I would file a complaint with the medical director and/or office manager. I would also bring it up to your doctor at your next appointment

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Your doctor’s staff needs to learn to be more compassionate towards patients.
