I believe (or at least headcannon) that Vergil feels guilty and regrets after rejoining with himself. When he fought and lost against Nero, he gained respect for him. He doesn't believe he'll ever be a good father to his son but he'll keep a soft voice. That's the only thing he really understands how to do.
