@elliotleemusic: The first time I encountered addiction within my home, I was in elementary school. It sent my favorite person to prison. After that, I thought at least I would never have to deal with that nebulous beast again. But the funny thing about addiction is that it lingers. It stains, it pollutes. It infects. I wanted somebody to blame for the instability in my adolescence, but I couldn’t bear to blame the addicts, so I blamed addiction itself. I let the hatred consume me. I let it fester inside of me like wound kept open by obsessively picking away the scab—a wound that begs for infection like starving dogs in a morgue. I’d blame myself, if I could. But I’ve heard that only makes things worse.
