I think both sides are valid. If one person is feeling so many feelings and is desperate to know what the other person is feeling, and then they just say “I don’t know” then that could be really upsetting. I really think saying like “I don’t know at this moment, I’ll think about it and tell you later” would be a lot better

for some reason people CANNOT comprehend that "i don't know" literally means what it says on the tin, point-blank. the rage i experienced from teachers in my childhood disallowing "i don't know" as an answer is unfathomable— they didn't encourage me to try and figure it out or something by doing that, they just frustrated me and made me not want to learn at all
