@leeannasue: I bought school supplies for my two children today for $240.80. I also pay taxes to fund public education. Teachers take money from their salary to supply their classrooms. This has to stop. This is absurd.
No worries. Now we don’t even have a Dept of Education. The USA is F’d with this admin. Thank heaven the rich got a tax break

Kids wreck school supplies. Kids borrow things are never return them. The same kids ask me for a pencil every single day even though I've already given them a new one everyday for the last 2 weeks. Last year I stopped lending out supplies altogether. Education could be run better in the US but there's also a problem with how lots of kids disrespect property, their peers, and their teachers.

the local high school gets an even fancier football field, but the elementary and middle schools are working 2001 AV and the high school has no music problem beyond marching band

As a teacher I understand the frustration of parents. Also though parents are mad at the wrong people/VOTE!!! Get people in office that funds education the way it should be

This video right here needs to be viral. Its not the parents job but also the teacher should have a budget for these things. Go knock on the door of the government and ask them why your “taxes” are being spent on bs

As a former special education teacher I can’t tell you how many times I spent my own money to provide for my students what their IEP needs by law. Yet, the schools could not provide and I was told to get “creative”. Education should be so important to this country for future prosperity. #sadface

I don’t get it…I’ll send my kid to school with whatever school supplies the teacher asks for..I’m getting “free” childcare and not paying for daycare anymore. HALLELUJAH !!!!!

Our tax dollars aren’t meant to buy paper, pencils, markers, etc for our kids? Our tax $$ pays the teachers’ salaries, pays for the facilities, etc. A free education is just that…a free education! News flash: raising kids isn’t free. PARENTS are responsible for buying their kids supplies. I think all of the handouts (angel tree Christmas gifts, food pantries, etc.) make parents believe they should only pay for what they want. These kids have new iPhones yet parents think the government should buy pencils & paper? I’d love to see the supplies the parents are claiming cost $100 or more per child.

Our taxes stay the same or go up and schools continue to get pinched. This is going to happen with even more social services and it’s going to be those that have a little extra to spare that are going to have to donate to close the gaps.

Every parent should pay for whatever their kid needs to go to school. That’s what you would do if they had to go to daycare.

I work as an after school childcare teacher and our organization has a storage room somewhere at the administrative building full of supplies so I refuse to use my own money when me and my students are entitled to those supplies purchased for us. I do a lot of pestering to get requests filled. (they make getting the supplies very difficult and it takes a while for it to be delivered so most staff buy stuff at dollar stores out of desperation)

I can’t think of many things better to spend tax money on then educating our future and paying the teachers who do that. Our system is messed up. I’m fine to buy supplies and extra to support the teacher but wish we had a better support system and our country put more emphasis on making our system better. Not defunding it.

Not to mention the donation drives for low income students “back to school” events. So pay taxes, donate and pay for your own kid too.

This depends on the district but often times the district will give select supplies that they deem necessary ie a ream of paper one white one colored and pencils. Then the teachers may get $100 for other classroom needs but they can’t even spend it where they want. So they may have to pick between $100 to target or a teaching store or a district warehouse and normally none of the options are the cheapest or a place where they can purchase all their needs. I spent yrs helping my mom price match and coupon and she spent hrs planning on how to use her $100 to get the most out of it. And she worked in a “wealthy” top district in our state.

And part of that is schools not spending money responsibly. Our state receives about 14,000 per student in funding

I remember when my kid was in jr high and asked for help with a math problem and I asked where their text book was so I could see how the problem was solved so I would know they were showing their work properly and they didn’t have a book because there weren’t enough of them to go around to everyone so they had to remain in the classroom.

I'm in Mississippi, arguably one of if not the cheapest state, and we spent about $350 for a kindergartener and a 2nd grader--supplies, uniforms, shoes, backpacks, activity fees, etc.. I splurged on shoes so they'd last longer, beyond that 350 is insane on top of what I'm sure their teachers spent and what ever out taxes go to 🙃
