Biggest piece of advice I have for freshman is to do your own enrollment online cause these advisors are literal 🗑️the only place you really need to go for help is the financial aid office if you don’t know how to sign up for it with your parents tax return

I don’t even talk to my advisor. I just use the education plan listed on the website. Only thing I need from her is a code to book my classes.

I feel like they need to have different advisors for different programs of study so there wouldn't be confusion on students because my advisor had me taking extra classes I didn't need 😒.

I'd go tru SEVERAL advisors till I found the 1 angel that was there too help! she got it to where I was just able to do my entry exam and exempt me from another casas exams because I had a GED, I'll never forget her 😭

This is the department’s issue, not the advisor. Advisors have no control over when we have as our requirements or prerequisites. They also have no control over the schedule. If the barrier to your graduation is course availability, you need to go talk to your department chair and dean. That’s something they need to address.

This is so real!!! Yes just sat with one the other day and I was thinking of getting mt aas in radiology … she tore that down quick told me to take the ekg course cause it gets paid for. I honestly think its because im 50 yrs old. So now i do not want to go back to school at all.

This. It kept happening to me when I tried to go our local community college years ago. They kept putting me in classes that I didn’t need and then would be like Welp it happens. No ma’am you wasted my time and money

I HATE meeting with my advisor, they always try to add so many classes. I was supposed to graduate this coming spring because I've been taking courses the past two summers and they added so many classes that I have an additional year added to my plan

Whatever the advisors say to take, you just agree with. Then after the meeting you do a degree audit, drop everything the advisor signed you up for, and sign up for the right classes yourself. I always say take the degree planner and plot out prerequisites, what classes meet which requirements, and then plan each semester out. then youve got a great road map to graduation. Big plus if you do Transferology and make sure everything transfers to a 4 year college or graduate school.
