it makes sense only if you don't think about it too much. She experiences time non linearly, okay then how is she experiencing it? All at once like Dr Manhattan? Randomly jumping around like we do? And when is she experiencing it? Is she remembering the future in our present or is her mind travels into that future? Sounds like in the book she at least thinks about changing the future but can't. Does that mean she only experiences stuff that can't be changed or does that mean that if she changes things the entire timeline rewrites itself along with her experience so the universe kinda settles into state she wouldn't wanna change? Or maybe she does change stuff and remembers the past state so from her perspective instead of moving forward in time she's moving slideways into state of more change? The one timeline model will never work. It only works in fiction because there's an author, a literal god of that universe, that engineers and rewrites that universe until it works.

arrival feels like the most underrated film i ever watched at least twice. even the producers made it in such an underrated way (for instance, cmon, rock climbing works so much better than cancer, no?!) the story just doesn't rise to the level of the world idea.
