who told you Italy was a white country. Growing up italian we never called ourselves white white were people from the united kingdom or ireland or scotland. even people in southern italy were often referred to as black when they moved to the united states. someone decided to give us that label, and it just doesn't fit for me. Sorry.

You are thinking from a western perspective. In India, no one cares about western media. It only affects immigrants like me. But I always have a choice to go back. My family 350 sqm home in India is empty, since I don’t like to let it to tenants, I just pay to get it cleaned every month. But I am worried about my kids’s mental health and the pressure they have to go through. They don’t have any accent. For me I just feel sorry for the ignorant people and wish them best. The amount of people assumed and said me that I must have gone through a lot of suffering in India do not understand, its very different for being a war-torn refugee and skilled migrant 🫢. My Indian degree is equivalent here, totally skipped the miseries of Australian student life, no HECS either.

It’s because when doing an Indian accent they do it in a derogatory way and the Italian and whatever other white accent it’s simply just acknowledging the accent rather then making a mockery out of it. I’m not even Indian and can see past the “jokes”

Western Media used African, Chinese, Asian, Indian accents as comedic entertainment for the western audience whilst simultaneously sensualizing French accents, using American accents for their heros and perpetuating the idea that British accents as the superior educated, Western Media was also a mechanism used to influence these perceptions and it still does up until today
