This Lithium can boost the SA economy, problem is the mining companies are private corporations and they will not compensate those families fairly. Plus, since these mining companies are privatized, it only benefits the rich elites and not as as the people in SA. It's a loose-loose and it's on our governments hands.

what is naturally supposed to happen, the mining company, after securing a prospectus, gets a loan from several banks say $4Bn. with this cash they buy out all the residents off the land, and use the residuals to begin mining the product. However, in modern times people have grown smarter, resulting in residents forming a union, with a dedicated lawyer, to ensure that the mining companies only receive licenses to mine not Deed ownerships of the land. This was, the people own the mine, the companies have a right to mine via license and pay a certain percentage to the people via the union every financial year. Or..the people form a mining company(on paper) that works in partnership by providing the land for the other companies to extract the lithium, they might split the profits 30%70% in favor of the other companies who take all the risk.
