Just having dates with our littles…(and why it’s SO important⤵️) It’s our last summer before these two move out so we are eating up the time we have with them. It’s crazy to think we are almost empty nesters. Something we do as a family is “date” each other. We have done it for years and here’s how it works. COUPLE DATES: Mike and I go on weekly dates and have since we got married (28 years ago). When we had little kids it was brownies and ice cream every Friday night while we watched Star Trek. Now it’s weekend trips alone. However it looks - it’s important to date your partner and this time is POWERFUL. SIBLING DATES: We encourage our kids to go on dates together. Before our oldest left on his mission to Colombia, we gave him a budget to take each sibling out once a month for his entire senior year. It was a game changer. We have done it for every “oldest child” in the home since then. The budget is small and the dates are simple. A quick slushy from 7-Eleven or a late night run to In-and-Out. But again, POWERFUL. CHILDREN DATES: Mike and I consciously take each kid out on dates whenever we can. When Mikey was at college, Mike drove down to take him to lunch each week. Karly and I sneak away to get pedicures, and we fly to see the Hawaii kids at least once a year. One of our funnest dates this summer was taking Mikey and Kenzi grocery shopping at Costco to fill their kitchen with food the day they moved in to their new home. It was a memory I will never forget. POWERFUL. People often ask us how our family got so close and I believe this is one of the reasons. No matter your budget - TIME is POWERFUL and can do more for a relationship than any amount of gifts or money. So…date your family!! You will be amazed and what it can do!
