@savedbydesign.tn: This piece is a Milo Baughman design, but if you’re looking for a Thayer Coggin label—you won’t find it. That’s because this chair predates the Thayer Coggin brand entirely. It was made during a brief and historically significant window when Milo’s work was being produced under a lesser-known name: James Inc. (Thayer Coggins' original company name). In the early 1950s, Milo Baughman came from California to a furniture expo in North Carolina, looking for someone who could bring his modernist designs to life. He had the vision but needed a manufacturer who could match it with engineering and precision. As fate would have it, Thayer Coggin, a WWII veteran with a degree in engineering, was attending the same show—searching not for a designer to follow trends but one who could define them. Inspired by the Danish modern designs he’d seen while serving overseas, Coggin wanted to bring that clean, sculptural elegance to American furniture. The two met, clicked immediately, and began creating together under James Inc., a short-lived label that marked the very beginning of their now-iconic partnership. That’s what this chair represents—not just a beautiful form, but the origin story of one of the most legendary collaborations in American furniture design. So yes, I restored it. But the value? That came from knowing what I had. This chair sold for $3,800 because the history behind a piece often matters more than the materials used to restore it. Great job with the sale , I love when furniture sells for what it’s actually worth. They don’t make stuff like they used too and if you happen to come across a company that does like Owen Sutters , etc you will pay for it. Great restoration btw
