Yes! I have had many many many conversations with people who proudly wave the "welcoming" flag and don't understand that it isn't the same as affirming and celebrating! The answers should be yes and should be easy to find: Can an LGBTQ+ couple be married here? Can a queer person become a pastor here? Can someone who is trans teach Sunday School? Can an LGBTQ+ person be in church leadership?

I went to a church in Portland Oregon that markets itself as progressive. Things felt really "off" for a while. I did some digging and discovered there are anti-gay. Pastor tried to manipulate me when I left. Counterculture Church. Pretty toxic origin story actually.

I’ve lost more friends from asking Christians to stop bearing false witness against LGBTQ+ people than I have for being a trans woman. They like having me as their token trans friend, but they can’t stand me using my voice to criticize their toxic churches.
