@tapirs.greens: The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said on Monday (Jul 21) it was looking into an alleged fraudulent work injury claim made against EatGreen, the operator of eatery Sumo Salad. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) also said that investigations were ongoing into the unnatural death of Ms Jane Lee, Sumo Salad's owner. Ms Lee, who was in her 40s, died on Saturday after making two Facebook posts about an employee who allegedly faked a workplace injury to seek compensation from the company. #sgnews #sgtiktok #rip

This is unacceptable, especially now that MOM and SPF are taking the matter seriously following Jane’s tragic death.

The mother of two also claimed that the couple had used similar tactics before, possibly with the help of a legal firm that, she alleged, advised foreign workers on how to exploit injury claims for compensation.

MOM only aims for employers when employee complains. Why is it not balanced, when employer complains employees if they cheat send them to jail as well, cheat includes being late for work etc

Why must MOM start taking their investigations seriously only after something tragic has happened? If not, they'll just be sitting on the matter and taking their own sweet time to act. The same applies to every other govt bodies.

It is better to work hard than scheming to scam their employer. Filty money won't last long, they're tainted with negative karma

There are just too many stressful things to handle in F&B business, and I believe this is the last straw that crushed her. I was once in F&B before but withdrew fast enough before straining too much financially, physically and mentally. RIP... 🌻

Yes go after the legal firm which is an accomplice to the crime if it is truly an alleged fake injury.

I dun understand...workmen compensation insurance does not cost much...why would that cost the owner death? Unless they did not purchase any Workmen Comp Insurance then the company need to pay the compensation out of their own pocket which at times are 5 figures sum

so its foreign workers trying to exploit the system & employers here ? not easy being an employer with all these unnecessary stress esp if funding is low or already struggling in the bzness.

MOM - similar to all government agencies- are only interested to go after the company . Cos when found guilty, they will have the means to pay the fines- the court/ IO need the $ to maintain the salary - Employees- if found guilty , mostly cannot pay fines, so will go jail instead & gov. need to feed them - Just like they go after the money lenders, why not after the people who borrow from them

Jane also thanked her staff, listing several long-time employees by name and informing them she had transferred funds to them as a gesture of gratitude. She named individuals who had worked with her for more than a decade, describing their loyalty and support as deeply meaningful.
