Let's use some critical thought... it's a duck painting competition. Both artists would like to do well in the competition, so... 1. They are going to paint ducks lol 2. There are only so many species of ducks 3. They are going to look at what has worked for previous winners & use that (warm tones, reeds, swimming in water) Now, if both artists had decided to paint dogs pooping in outer space, I would have questions 🤣

😅 If you spend a lot of time in the field gathering reference, you end up with a lot of similar photos. Bird ..water..sunrise..marsh 😅 It’s hardly surprising to see paintings with a similar composition formula in this contest. It’s the execution that sets them apart.

As someone who has bought the federal duck stamp before and who has framed copies of them hanging up in my house, if you’re basing the competition off of posing alone they honestly all end up looking the same after awhile. all of the duck pictures I have hanging up including stamps have the same exact pose. I only have one that doesn’t and it’s a mallard with his bill in the water digging in the mud.

Thank you so much for addressing this. I tried to explain this to some people in the comments of their video but it was wild. Someone was saying “what are the odds they both paint a duck with a blue bill” - please tell me you don’t know Ruddy ducks or how the competition works then 😂

Unfortunately the fear of tracing and copying (furthered by AI stealing art) has lead to people who don’t actually know what counts as plagiarism accusing people of plagiarism.

You’ll also note that both artists have talked about beating their own personal best - not each other. That is the definition of healthy competition.
