@drshantesays: Systems of privilege weaken the power of the privileged group. They never develop the muscle for resilience, innovation or survival. Meanwhile non privileged groups develop those skills and subsequent succeed despite the inequity of resources. #socialmedia #angerissues #sociology #education #fyp

I’m a white man. Grew up in a small town around a lot of angry, sad young white men (thankfully not me, I got out, got educated, and had good parents - thank god). I’m in a different place in my life now in my thirties, and again because of my parents raising me with decency and my father being well educated, I never aligned with their beliefs…..but I will admit I was friends with some of these “angry white men” in high school. Who believed some nasty things - and whose beliefs are the main reason we are not friends today. You are spot on. And when those systems of Privilige start to break down, they react violently. I can tell you unequivocally that I have never had the displeasure of being around a more entitled, lame, sorry, pathetic group of men than these Republican white boys. It is not an accident that all of my former “friends” I cut off for their nasty, racist beliefs still work factory jobs for 14 bucks an hour and live in moms basement; and all of my black and brown friends went on to law school (like me),or medical school, or are analysts at big name companies. I’m sorry but it’s true. They want to talk that talk about “I’m not being racist I’m noticing patterns…” well there’s one for you! Coming from a white guy.

As a white man this is correct. This is where the majority of racism comes from. That privilege has caused a huge lack of skills and character, so they choose to oppress and deprive the other races because they don’t have the substance to compete against them in life without an advantage.

In retired, but when I was in the corporate world I had a team of 120 people reporting through me. It was a start up environment and I had to do a lot of hiring. The people who were the most successful were the ones who were hungry. Literally. Against everyone’s advice I hired an 18 year old black woman who had emancipated herself from her mother at 16. She was thin, had no experience, but scored exceptionally well on the aptitude test we gave everyone. It was a sales environment. I asked her why I should hire her and she locked eyes with me and said, because I’m HUNGRY. I NEED this. There aren’t any hours I won’t work. I don’t need breaks (everyone has to take breaks by law in CA, and lunch) or vacations. I need food. None of my managers wanted her because she was so young but I hired her and she reported to me, just as they did. She wiped the floor with everyone but two other people with over 20 years of experience. My managers were begging for her to be on their teams. I had a very diverse team. They broke all kinds of records together and individually and became the benchmark for the company. I’m still proud of them. And that skinny young woman gained 35 pounds eating steak and lobster. She made almost as much money as I did and I was three levels above her on the org chart. Go Kamilla!

Reminds me of how Tiger Woods was treated when he began to really pull out in front of his peers. They made new rules and remodeled golf courses. Same with the Williams sisters and Simone Biles. Think about black wall street and the movie Rosewood.

They got soft and enjoyed their privilege and now they're feeling inadequate. If they don't know how to build themselves up, they'll tear others down.
