First Week of School: Day 5 Activities: A to Z Races or Snake (Word Games) + Finish Class Expectations & Procedures Slideshow These are two of my absolute favorite word games to play with students! I love introducing them during the first week of school. They’re engaging, easy to learn, and a great way to build classroom community. Plus, we play them throughout the year as quick, fun brain breaks or transitions. :) After we play, we’ll wrap up our Classroom Expectations & Procedures Slideshow. (If you want a deeper dive into that, check out my Day 4 video!) I hope this mini-series has been helpful as you plan your first week! I also have a few bonus activities I like to keep in my back pocket in case we have extra time. I’ll make videos about those too. :) Transitioning Into Week 2: Between the first and second week of school, I also like to: •Introduce our first First Chapter Friday •Have students complete a Reading Inventory •Visit the library to check out books •We set up our reading and writing notebooks & •Set our Quarter 1 reading goals 😅 Of course, how much you can fit in really depends on the length of your ELA block. If you have 60–80 minutes, you’ll have much more flexibility than with a 40–50 minute period. Just make the most of whatever time you’ve got! If you have any questions, feel free to drop them in the comments. I’ll do my best to make a video for you before school starts! *If you would like a copy of any of my first week activities, I have them all available in my “teacher drive”. ☺️ It is 🔗 in my bio. #teachersoftiktok #newteacher #firstyearteacher #backtoschool #firstweekofschool
