@solisfamilyhosts: it never fails to make me laugh when people get mad that we “always pick German students”… as if we’re shopping from the clearance rack and not picking someone to literally join our family 😂 truth is: we don’t pick a country. we pick a kid. we pick based on personality, values, and the vibe we feel in our gut. and yes, a lot of the time that student happens to be German, because they make up one of the biggest applicant groups. that’s just the math 🤷🏼♀️ our house isn’t a travel agency. we’re not checking off countries. we’re opening our hearts to a person. and culture? we can learn that from anyone. so yes, we picked another German student. and we already adore her 🫶🏼💛 also we get a little bonus bc she’s Bosnian 🇧🇦 too if you’re not picking a German student bc you’ve already hosted one, ask yourself why? could you not learn more about their culture? #hostfamilylife #exchangestudent #germanhostmom #staybasic #exchangeyearusa #germanexchange #hostfamilyhumor #hostingwithheart #ayusa #culturalexchange #familyfirst #exchangeyear #gastfamilie @Ayusa @anesa
I do like to pick from different countries to experience as many as possible, but it’s about picking who feels right for our home, not the country.

It also has many positive effects, then you can, for example, visit several when you are in Germany and you also learn the language a little and their culture much more than if you only have one. In addition, Germany is also a very beautiful country with nice people.

In 11 days, I'll be hosting my fourth German exchange student. I actually looked at a few different countries this year, including Australia. I was trying to branch out but like you I found the PERFECT student who just happens to be German. Maybe next time. (More than likely next time will still be a German. LOL)

We pick a new country every year just as a way to narrow the field. It can’t go on forever, someday a special student is going to make me choose the same country again!

I have a question!!So, I wanna do an exchange year in the US,and I'm also german. I will be 16 by then and are there like very important things to do/not do in a host fam? Because I've seen a lot of exchange students doing things their host parents dont want. So what are kinda basic rules in a hist household? And can u maybe give me some advice on how to act there? And I'm specifically asking u, because u are a very kind and known host mom. Help is very appreciated!!!💞
