that's an interesting thought. my take on it. is that it is clear acquisition of data rather than listening with inference. but the consideration of the data that is done afterwards, and not at the point in time of data collection

I thought it meant something more along the lines of Odin being afraid of losing his mind from old age like humans do, even tho that sound a bit silly. It sounds to me that he says he is afraid that his thought and memory are not always reliable or permanent. The Gods are fated to die at some point just like us. So it might not be so weird to say that
