when i floss my patients i give them the mirror so they can watch how i do it! saves time for me and also lets them learn and im sure it helps to see it on themselves instead of a model! theres no excuse!

I agree. Also some patient lie. I have had a pt look me dead in the eyes & say he’s never be shown/tld something I 100% have told them lol

I had a patient swear that I have never showed them how to brush and floss, Dr read my notes back to them, and then let them know he personally heard me tell them and saw me show them every 4 months, some patients will not ever change, I document every thing I show them and tell them

I always document when and what techniques of flossing or brushing are reviewed, because I’ve had patients tell me, “No one ever showed me that,” even though I literally saw them three months ago. Adults will lie like children to avoid taking responsibility for their own health. Do not forget that!

Teaching patients how to brush and floss in the chair is the BARE MINIMUM and I hope we all continue to do that for our patients, even if they forget how to!
