@nutritionaltherapist: @Crime Analyst Laura Richard’s is the expert I trust on trauma bonds and profiling abusers. This is just another example of why we should pay little to NO attention to her pathology and focus instead on the physiology when supporting victims. Physiology first always. As a functional medicine practitioner that studies labs of survivors and a somatic practitioner, I find no benefit from differentiating between pathology rather I find value in addressing the physiological impacts of chronic stress on the body and brain caused by living in survival. What a survivor identifies with to cope or understand has little relevance to me as how she describes the patterns within her nervous system and her physiological markers on her labs.

So "Stockholm Syndrome" is another case of men seeing a woman nervously smile when faced with an unstable man and think it's a genuine?

let's take this a step further. that woman being held hostage saw from the inside that the hostage negotiation was botched and that law enforcement was willing to lose hostages to resolve the situation as best in their favor. she spoke out and the psychiatrist smeared her with his made-up diagnosis because he was one of the people whose reputation was on the line because of all of the fuckups.

that situation in Stockholm was famously handled poorly by Swedish police, and many hostages later had bad things to say about the police. they interpreted that to mean they're siding with the kidnappers

Stockholm syndrome was invented to give an excuse to the cops cuz they butchered the hostage negotiation and put the hostages in danger. The hostages trusted the bank robbers more than the police, cuz they knew the bank robbers werent there to kill them. A psychiatrist was then hired by the police to "diagnose" them, and invented stockholm syndrome to cover for the ineptitude of the police

Also because the cops were so incompetent they put the hostages in danger, and it was preferable to make up a condition than to believe the hostages who criticized the police.

The idea of Stockholm Syndrome benefits the patriarchy as they can use it as an excuse for not helping DV victims.

wasn't the og case of such incompetent police swat team that the hostages expressed more anger towards the police than the robbers to the point where the term was created because they thought there must've been something else going on because God forbid people be angry at incompetent cops!?

I stayed with my abusive ex because I didn't know what to do other than try to survive. You can't go to friends or family because they threaten to harm them if you do. You've all seen many cases in news of friends and family getting murdered alongside domestic abuse victims. After years I found out about dv refuges and was lucky enough to find a space. Refuges are underfunded so often don't have enough space. There simply isn't enough help for victims

There is more to this. The hostages did, to a certain point, agree and sympathize with the hostage takers. There are recordings of this. If this is enough to validate Stockholm syndrome I don't know.

Let's not be delusional in the comments either, very real and sad cases of Stockholm syndrome have been documented where victims after years of abuse feel like they love the man who held them captive, even after they're dead and the victim is totally free; it's just a sad mix of survival instinct, partial amnesia and bias

same goes for people being s*xslaves etc. itd easier and sader not to resist, its easier to adapt and do what u are told. it does not make u liking them or loving them. u just survive by becoming passive in a situation u can't win
