Darcus Howe was more than a protestor - he was a strategist of resistance and a sharp political mind in 1970s Britain. When police raided The Mangrove restaurant 12 times in 18 months, Darcus helped lead the response: a protest that ended in the historic Mangrove Nine trial. He defended himself in court and exposed the racism at the heart of British policing - making legal history in the process. Darcus later became editor of Race Today, a radical magazine that documented Black British life from the ground up.
