whenever I hear someone talking about how their parent "got by" without gov't assistance programs, I just feel so badly for them, that their parents prioritized their pride, rather than accepting the help they were entitled to for the well-being of their children.

I wish snap took into account things like health issues that may make food cost more. Trying to watch someone with a gluten allergy afford food on the outdated snap benefit limits was difficult

Maybe I'm ill informed but my research says that $500 of the $10k I pay in taxes goes to social programs. Soooo I don't give 2 sh*to on how people spend their benefits. I believe people should be able to eat.

but people please keep on admitting to personally knowing people who are selling their food stamps. that is fraud. if you know fraud is happening and you don't report it, you are aiding in fraud. that is a crime. depending on your state you may be fined, charged with a misdemeanor, or even a felony for not reporting the fraud you know is taking place. i can't imagine you'd be against SNAP bc of "all the fraud" yet you'd refuse to report fraud bc it's "none of your business".

My question is if you know someone who doing something like selling food stamps..I don't care if it's your sister why aren't you reporting it. They can't comphend strict guidelines. I thought about reviewing free products on Amazon. You have to file paperwork for that and declare it as income. Everywhere.

I let my pride get in my way for a long time. I worked full time & felt like I should be able to provide. But my children were the ones not getting the nutrients they needed. I had to swallow my pride & ask for help. Now, I’m glad to say yes, I got help. That’s why it’s there.

My Dad worked at a laundry in San Francisco from the 1960s to the 1990s. In the 1970s he was laid off. There were 8 of us. We were on Food Stamps until my Dad started working again.
