But what happens to that interest for your tax bomb? If interest is accruing for 25 years will I have to pay taxes on that or just the principal?

So since I’m in the “SAVE” program should I just pay the interest that accrues monthly until the courts decide what they want to do?

Most incomes are not enough to make the payments in this economy for some- save plan would have made just too much sense. And yes we have been making our payments😊

Who decides that my income after taxes and bills can afford those payments? Thats rhetorcal. They dont base it on after taxes. Or that I pay my bills on my own.

Yeah the biggest issue is my “IDR” costs MORE than my 10 year and I can’t afford either right now. Currently in save but idk

Dentist here. I make around 200k in Texas. My loan balance is 297k. Should I make my $3500 payments for 10 years or do the bare minimum?

Does the interest raise your monthly payment though? That’s my confusion

It’s the unknown. My logic is pay the least amount possible regardless of affordability because my money can make money elsewhere

So if I am in the SAVE program and am getting married soon & my fiancé makes double what I do, it would make sense for us to file taxes separately? Otherwise I wouldn't be able to stay in the save program based on his salary/our combined income if we filed married?

Thank you for your help. I submitted an application to switch out of save to IBR. I am pursuing PSLF and can’t watch another month go by not counting. This is just horrible. 😭

I was thinking about this last week. My SAVE payments are at $0 a month until Nov 2026 so I wanted to use my income to pay off a private SOFI loan while I still can. That makes the most sense to me but glad to see this video is confirming that. If I have that right.

2 loans are in SAVE but I went back to school for my masters 2 years ago. I just finished my teaching degree, and those 2 loans are now in GRACE. payment starts in November 25. can those be added to an IBR program?

Question: Can we use this entire forbearance period to calculate buyback? I have 45 payments to achieve PSLF which breaks down to 3.75 years. We’ve technically been in admin forbearance since March 2020, right? So…could I apply for buyback for 45 payments? I’ve been a teacher for 17 years. Also…how is the buyback payment calculated? TYIA
