Iran has struck US military bases in Qatar and Iraq after the US bombed three of its nuclear sites. The US had joined Israel in bombing Iran after Israel launched a large-scale, unprovoked attack on Iran’s nuclear and military facilities on June 13, claiming that Iran was close to developing a nuclear weapon and leading Iran to retaliate. On Monday, June 23, Iran then launched a missile attack towards the largest US military base in the Middle East, the Al Udeid Air Base, in Qatar’s capital Doha and the Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement that it had launched a “powerful and devastating missile attack” in response to the “blatant military aggression” by the US. It said the strikes sent a message to the US and its allies that Iran would leave no aggression against its territorial integrity, sovereignty or national security unanswered. It added that its attack does not pose any threat to the “friendly and brother country” of Qatar, which it remains committed to maintaining warm and historic relations with. Iran had informed the US and Qatar about the attack hours prior to minimize casualties, making it “a retaliatory but largely symbolic response”, a US defense official said, according to the Guardian. Authorities in Qatar and Iraq did not report any damage or casualties, and the Qatari government said that their defense system had intercepted the missiles. Despite having prior knowledge, Qatar’s government still condemned the attack, saying it was “a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace.” Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump described Iran's retaliation response as “weak”, while also thanking Iran for giving them early warning. “They’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE,” he wrote on his platform Truth Social, “Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.” ##war #iran #iranian #us #usa #donaldtrump #military #politics #geopolitics #middleeast #israel #israeli #gaza #gazastrip #palestine #palestinian #freepalestine #missiles #airstrike #nuclearbomb #nuclear #qatar #iraq #doha #airbase #defense #qatari #iraqi #fyp #EduTok #LearnOnTikTok #tiktoknews
