im a gay cisgender woman, femme, millenial and I've had top surgery. Excellent decision for myself. And what really struck me about it is how it really wasn't a big deal for my life. People acted as if it would be this huge thing...other than my own personal satisfaction, it really wasnt. Its just not that big of a deal. And the same people who wanted it to be a big deal wouldn't have batted an eye if I had said I wanted implants, which affect peoples lives much more. People are just constantly freaking out about nothing.

Just as Autism was broadly under-diagnosed for decades, it may be that people now have language, concepts, and access to more personal choices. The number of people previously expected to be transgender spectrum is not less than 1% but it seems more. People don't have to be unknown to themselves or in the closet out of fear or confusion, at the minimum everyone should have a chance to reflect and explore how they identify and that is never carved in stone.

I get the impression that they get the 9/10 number because those are the circles they ran in. They've fallen into the trap of thinking their small circle is a reflection of the whole community.

It makes me think about Susie Izzard, and how twenty or thirty years ago, there wasn’t necessarily language or understanding around a whole lot of this stuff, and so Susie was still Eddie, who was “just a cross-dresser” and then much later in life went “ohh, no, I’m actually Susie”. There is space for both - that path for her doesn’t diminish the path of people who are genderqueer but don’t want to transition completely. I so appreciate the shades of nuance that is coming into being, but it feels so much like some people struggle to embrace that nuance.

Why do people care? I'm a cis woman and I really don't understand why so many people care about other people being trans or getting surgery. Even if they regret it later in life, why would we care and try to police their bodies?

Thank you for the truth, this is another oppressive question in the queer community not a "just asking questions" moment. It's almost as if all of this is a personal individual journey since the dawn of time, I'll never understand how queer people outside of societal norms want to push the same norms into the community, stop letting the patriarchy bleed into our community!!

I am Gen X and I fear there are not enough people like you around (and I like to put myself in the same category - no interest in being an oppressor) I am tired of my peers being angry about younger folks finding their identities differently than we did. we paved a path so they could. or at least that is what I thought.

I can't seem to get past how some questions tend to feel like set ups. like asking will give them amo to use against others. That question felt that way to me. What you said is 100% correct. However, I add its not only none of your business it is also none of theirs either. 🥺 Thank you. This gave me more confidence in my own decision. Well, to be lesbian I mean. It looked to be getting really toxic. I’ve been lesbian for almost a decade (with little uncertainties here and there.) I’m trans, I know that for sure. He/they. But the whole thing about how I can’t be lesbian also felt like transphobia and transmedicalism because every one of their arguments would absolutely exclude tranwoman just starting their journey, or happy where they are. And it were those same arguments that would accept a version of myself, if I just conformed. Which I didn’t want to do. It also harms cis lesbian (and straight women frankly) because they’re falling pray to the “define a woman” arguments. Which does no one any good.

Tbh I don’t super get a lot of the gender stuff. But why do I need to? I just listen and take your word for it. I’m genx and I thought I got the best parts of it. The “I don’t care” part. But like in a cool way. As a flaming homo, I feel like I don’t really have the luxury to be anything but open minded.
