Jehanzebz :
This is a very honest testimony. Your removal of the hijab can teach faith, sincerity and humility more than the putting on of hijab by some people. This will actually deepen your relation with hijab. You've reduced outward noise that will allow you to explore inner landscapes, and in fact, the love for hijab will give wings to your inward work. I would encourage you to remember you are still a hijabi because you are attached to its meaning, and your relation to its meaning can grow even while you haven't fully adopted it outwardly. Unfortunately, the idea of hijab has been reduced to modesty in a shallow and narrow sense. Its richness calls for a better word. Rather than modesty, “dignity” seems more suitable, since dignity implies both a guarded and expressive attitude. It’s like the word reveal, which means “re-veil”. Being a veil, the hijab indicates that which is veiled, or the beyond, and so by covering the body, the hijab reveals the soul and the spirit. The hijab proclaims that reality has layers beyond appearances, and it also expresses them. It's a common mistake to think the hijab is not meant to radiate beauty, that it only veils. In fact, it is meant to elevate the quality of beauty radiated. “All that is deep, loves the mask” (Nietzsche). Our personality is our hijab, as the word persona means “mask”, and we express the nobility that hijab represents through the nobility of our character.
