“A reader lives a thousand lives before they die but the person who never reads only loves one” I love this quote so freaking much bc it’s so true

I was the MOST depressed knee deep in my self help book era… I got sick of always feeling like I needed to “fix” myself so I banned non-fiction for a bit and I swear fantasy and fiction has helped SO much

oh i will die on the hill that reading FICTION = emotional intelligence ! i feel like new adults always want to read all of these self help books that have “cracked the code” to mental health, finances, and relationships but they lack selflessness and are so self centered (the books) 😭 i feel like fiction allows for perspectives and allows me to understand that things aren’t just black or white… especially when you’re so emotionally invested in characters and your relate to them or bits and pieces of them remind you of people you’ve encountered :) i think everyone should be reading! we can learn soooo much empathy, it increases creativity and reduces stress 📚

As an author I’ll say we pour a lot of our own grief and healing through our words and it’s very cathartic in this sort of release - and when reading other’s words you connect with what they needed to release. Very empathic and healing

Once I stopped reading self help books my depression and anxiety disappeared. I was so broke then, too. Now? Complete opposite reading fiction.

Yes!!! The only time I feel like my anxiety and depression are under control is when I am reading on a regular basis. I have realized that books are my escape.

YES. It has rewired my brain to go back to reading as an adult. I’m now quite literally terrified of dying before reading the hundreds of books on my TBR 💀

Heavyyy emphasis on “It allows me to gain access to emotions I would otherwise not be able to access. Its grown my empathy, sympathy, creative thinking, my understanding of people, and the world, and emotions.” 👏🏻 You have effortlessly articulated what my own experience has been like, since the day I decided to pick up a book, again. I havent stopped! Chefs kiss! 🫶🏻
