@radicalmothering: Brent Daniel Althoff was my best friend for *literally* my entire life. we were born at the same hospital hours apart. every year we'd send each other birthday wishes on Jan 8 and 9 without fail until this year when he wasn't able to remember. when my parents home burned down, he sent me the clip of Jenny's house getting torn down by Forrest and said he'd wished he'd lit the match himself. when my brother died he was there. when my ex died he was there. he's been a constant in my life from go. I loved him beyond love. his was the deepest, most enduring friendship I've ever known. in highschool he called me "dollface". senior year we were nearly inseparable. Jerry Macguire was out movie and Left Foot Blue's Midnight Sun album was our soundtrack. we danced at prom. we took drives together. one time we parked to talk and it got late. his mom was furious and she hunted us down. before GPS tracking and cell phones she found us at the end of a developing cul de sac talking like best friends. one other time he drove me home and slipped on black ice into a corn field and was so upset. he was crying and kept saying "I could have killed you. I could have killed you." he loved me. we had time in our 20s together being dumb and drinking wine and talking until wee hours at my apartment. not once in my life did he let me down. when he told me last April he was having surgery for tumors discovered when he had seizures, I knew we did not likely have much time left. he kept me up to date with his treatment, but knowing him, he held enough back to keep me hopeful. he was my brother from another mother. there will never be one to replace him. love (God) and the first law of thermodynamics. I *know* I'll see him again.
