Not all whale watching trips have you in the water but this was the most epic experience ever! Did you know that Norway is one of the only places in the world where you can legally swim with orcas? Located in Northern Norway, most tour companies depart out of Skjervøy. The closest larger airport is Tromsø so that’s where you will probably fly into. From there it’s about a 3.5-4 hour drive, however there are a few other options of ways to get there, including bus, ferry or catamaran. You’ll want to give yourself a few days of excursions to swim with the orcas, they are wild animals and sightings are not always a guarantee. The trips are snorkeling only and you will be fitted with a dry suit, hood, gloves, snorkel and mask. When you enter the water your hands and face will be exposed to the icy temperatures but trust me, you’ll barely feel anything because you’ll be so excited seeing the orcas! Swimming with orcas is only possible from end of October through mid- January (typically). You’ll want to check with each individual tour company. I was here in January 2017! These are a few companies that run the orca trips: @lofotenopplevelser (the company I used- they offer daily trips) @whale2sea - day trip @baskingsharkscotland - multi day excursions @orcanorway.info - multi day excursions @valhallaorcaexpedition - multi day excursions Would you swim with orcas?
